Garden Window

There’s a saying about photography, that the worst photo is the one you didn’t take. Well, something like that, anyway. And since the most common reason for not taking that photo, at least for me, is not having my camera, I’ve made a point to carry it as often as possible.

Here’s a great example of an almost missed photo. I walk to and from the grocery store about once a week, and on my way home, there’s a neat old window overlooking a tiny parking lot garden. With the light brick building surrounded by trees, and flowers blooming, it’s a beautiful sight. All spring and summer, as I walked home from the grocery store, I would see that window and think “wow, that would be a great photo.” Then I would keep walking, because I didn’t have my camera with me to actually take the photo. About two weeks ago, I made some changes in the “stuff” I carry with me every day, getting rid of un-necessary stuff in order to fit my camera in my bag. Not too long after, I ended up walking home from the grocery store after work, and there was the window, with the flowers blooming below. And this is how it turned out:
